November’s here…

7 November 2010 § 3 Comments

There’s weather coming in;
Riding a wind
Out of the north
Its teeth
Sharpened on icebergs
It bit off the edge of the Arctic.

Shredded by the jet-stream
A tired cloud trails a thin rain
That dots the pavement
Freckles cars
Chills the air
Like crushed ice in a glass.

The heavy stuff
Is stacked behind
In a sickened sky
That brings a fevered flush
To house-bricks and staring windows,
Jaundices the page.

A day
To stay inside,
Leave the bike
Snug under cover
And wait
Till it’s all blown over.

The good thing about living where I live SoCal (Southern California) there are few days that I cannot ride. 🙂

You’re a lucky man, my friend. It’s 5 degrees C and pouring with rain in Sussex today, just like they said it would be. Can’t help thinking we should invoke the Special Relationship and ask to have a few bits of our old colony back – starting with SoCal ! Good to see you here as always.

Wow – such a great poem blog-pal with some amazing imagery. I especially like the words “Its teeth Sharpened on icebergs It bit off the edge of the Arctic.” – yes, this British weather is harsh isn’t it? And your poem paints that picture perfectly. Hope you and your family are well. Chloe xx
